M.A. Thesis Project by Fatih Sivridağ

Fatih’s study aims to discover the factors affecting inference generation during reading in a non-native language. Working memory capacity, as measured with complex span tasks, and language proficiency have separately been suggested to influence the type and extent of inferences generated during L2 reading. By using early and late processing measures as reflected by eye-movement patterns on post-inferential words, the study targets to determine if predictive inferences, which are thought not to be essential and thus not automatic in text comprehension, are generated as a function of working memory capacity, L2 proficiency, or their interaction.
